The Bali golf course now features new Paspalum turf, with scalloped bunkering lining most fairways and elevated greens. Many of the newly routed holes have lengthened to championship distances as the course now plays to over 7100 yards from the tips.

Handara Golf & Resort Bali must be one of the most astonishing golf courses on Bali if not around all of South East Asia. The Bali golf course is set in the lush highlands of Bali and nestled in the crater of a volcano in the mountains of Bedugul; a 2-hour drive from Nusa Dua and 1 hour from Ubud.
The long journey is worth it. From the low coastal regions, the road to the golf course winds around traditional Balinese villages, rice paddies and ascends towards the volcanic mountains. The entrance to the Bali Handara Golf & Country Club Resort is just past Lake Bedugul.
This Bali golf course located at an altitude of 1,142 meters (3,750 feet) above sea level and temperatures moderate between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius. The golf course is pleasant to play due to the mild heat and the overwhelming view of the lush tropical forest.
The 18-hole championship golf course designed by Australians Peter Thompson and Michael Wolveridge in 1974. Mature tree-lined fairways, indigenous flowers, and Bentgrass greens characterize the layout. Notable holes include the 3rd, long 435 yard par-4 that plays downhill to a 90-degree dogleg to the right.
The creek along the right side of the fairway prevents cutting over the dogleg, and bushes well guard the left side. Driving accuracy is a must to par this hole. The second shot must carry across the water with a long iron to the green.

After Breakfast, transfer to the Bali National golf club.
Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright designed Hawaiian-styled golf course, Bali National Golf Club re-opened in 2013 after undergoing extensive renovations.
Being located at the southern tip of the island puts Bali National near many of the top hotels. It is only a short 15-minute drive by new 4-lane tollway from the Bali International Airport.
The Bali golf course now features new Paspalum turf, with scalloped bunkering lining most fairways and elevated greens. Many of the newly routed holes have lengthened to championship distances as the course now plays to over 7100 yards from the tips. In its previous incarnation, Bali Nation hosted the 1994 Asian Dunhill Masters where Nick Faldo shot the course record 63, and in 1997 the Bali golf club was voted one of Asia’s top 5 golf courses by Fortune Magazine.
Two distinct terrains have been used to create Bali National. The outward nine plays up through the hills with lush tropical and jungle fauna. Spectacular views of the Indian Ocean and the Nusa Dua area show up on practically every hole. Hand-built local stone walls have been incorporated into the golf course design to terrace the sides of fairways and tee boxes.
The wall arrangements give one the impression of being in the typical rice field terraces that characterize the Bali countryside. The longest hole is the par-5 7th playing over 600 yards. Watch out for some unusual terraced landscaping hazards that might inspire a kind of longing for an old bunker.

The inward nine at Bali National plays on level land through coconut trees and a series of man-made lakes. Hole 17, one of the signature holes, is Bali’s answer to the famous TPCC Sawgrass #17. The dangerous par-3 played to an island green requires a well-struck tee shot to avoid a watery beginning. The final hole is an excellent dogleg left which sets up for good birdie possibilities with spectators viewing the finish from the modern clubhouse.
The expert superintendent and superb maintenance ensure year-round championship playing conditions. The new Bali National Golf Club has a modern clubhouse and restaurant with spectacular views of the golf course and the Indian Ocean. There is a grass driving range with chipping and putting greens to warm-up.

The second shot must carry across the water with a long iron to the green.
Another par-4, the 7th plays 375 yards uphill, and a dogleg left. The hole is lined on both sides by orange flowering trees that make you feel like you are hitting down a long shot in a real golf tournament. The par-3 14th is the signature hole at 203 yards. Hitting to an uphill green with huge mountains in the background make you appreciate how special Bali Handara is. The finishing hole a 560 yard par-5 plays downhill on the drive and then uphill to the clubhouse for the second and third shots. Fairway bunkers come into play on the tee shot and once successfully past them you are set up for an excellent birdie opportunity.
The 300 yard driving range is an excellent place to warm up. Additional practice facilities at Bali Handara include three putting greens, chipping area, and several bunkers to test your sand skills before the round.
A vast open space with panoramic views of Burmese mountain ranges in the distance sets the stage for this masterpiece. A large river bisects the course and adds to the natural scenery.
It takes around 30 minutes to reach the site from Kanchanaburi town or 2 hours from Bangkok. Grand Prix makes excellent use of significant mounding and undulations through the fairways and greens.
Many holes have split fairways offering golfers both a more challenging and a relaxing approach to the greens. Multi-tiered greens have lots of breaks, so it pays to select the correct club for each approach shot; otherwise, 3-putts or worse is likely.
