After Breakfast, This tour travels along the beautiful South Shore Beaches to Gibbs High Lighthouse for a panoramic view of the island from the oldest and tallest cast-iron lighthouse in the world some 185 steps in all to climb the eight flights of stairs to the top. The British erected the lighthouse in 1846. The lens, which consists of concentric prisms weighs 2.75 tons and is capable of generating a half-million candlepower.

Using a 1000-watt electric bulb, it produces a beam that can be seen up to 40 miles out to sea (Morning coffee or afternoon tea at the quaint Lighthouse Tea Room* additional cost) The entry to Somerset is across the smallest drawbridge in the world built in the 17th century, has a mere 30-inch span wide enough to allow the mast of a sailboat to pass through.

The Royal Naval Dockyard built-in 1810. After the American Revolution in 1776, the British, who were no longer able to use ports
in the former American colonies, needed a new naval base that had the capacity to repair warships and serve as a midway station between Nova Scotia and the British West Indies.

The Maritime Museum is an old fortress with an interesting collection of buildings housing a varied display of maritime history, exhibits of Spanish treasure raised from sunken ships from our reefs. After Breakfast in the resort, enjoy a private guided St.George Colonial heritage tour through the wonderful narrow streets of St. George’s.

He will take you to the historic Town Square and the nearby replica of the Deliverance. We will visit the oldest church in the western hemisphere, St. Peter’s Church, founded in 1612, and visit the unfinished church.

Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and other heads of state have played the course, which was updated by Robert Trent Jones in 1953. Located along Castle Harbour, this 21-acre tropical estate features an underground cave, full-service spa and spacious rooms with ocean views. LF Wade International Airport is a 10-minute drive away.
