Much like a fillet steak and a fine Malbec, our escorted golf tour combining Buenos Aires and Patagonia is all about contrasts.
Elegant city suburbs versus the wild, raw sight of the glaciers; dancing the tango in Buenos Aires versus the overpowering silence of the Patagonian steppe.
Argentina is synonymous with soccer or specifically Diego Maradona who seemingly single-handedly removed England from more than one World Cup campaign. But Argentina is one Latin American country where Europeans and even the English will feel at ease. Corned beef, the sultry tango, Buenos Aires, and, naturally, football come to mind when thinking of Argentina.
The British brought golf to Argentina at the end of the 19th century and laid out rudimentary courses around San Martin. By the time Lomas Golf Club was founded in 1892, many Argentines had already adopted the new sport. Asociación Argentina de Golf was founded in 1926 and there are currently more than 300 registered golf courses, which include 27 par three courses.
Vincente Fernández and Eduardo Romero, who each won more than 70 professional titles around the world, starting in the 1960s, and Ángel Cabrera (“El Pato”), who triumphed at the 2007 US Open in Oakmont and the Master’s Tournament at Augusta National two years later.
One really famous Argentinian golf hole is the 15th at Olivos Golf Club, known as the best hole in Argentina.

The Buenos Aires GC opened in 1994 and was the host of the EMC Golf World Cup in 2000, when the United States Team (Tiger Woods and David Duval) defeated in the last round the argentine team (Romero and Cabrera). This 7000 yards, par 72 course designed by Robert Von Hagge is full of water and bunkers with excellent greens and marvelous maintenance. The club has 3 different 9 holes loops: Green, Blue, and Yellow. In 2005 Golf Digest ranked BAGC among its top 100 courses.
San Andres GC is the oldest golf club in Argentina. Today, while members are Argentine-born, many of the traditions of the British antecessors are still observed. The 18 holes course designed by Mr. Mungo Park in 1907, is a typical British parkland of old trees with greens of medium size with smooth –hard to read- slopes. San Andres is one of those courses that are easy when you look at the scorecard, however, the more you play it, the more you understand why its so hard to make a very good score.
Home to what many golfers believe to be the best hole in Argentina– the 15th hole – which is included in the book 1001 Golf Holes to Play Before You Die, Olivos Golf Club is a great 27-hole facility with the feel of an old-world classic golf course. It was shortlisted by the American PGA to host the 2000 World Cup and has hosted numerous other championships including the Argentine Masters Tournament, the World Amateur Championship, and the Argentine Open, among others.
Arelauquen Golf & CC was designed by Vicente “Chino”Fernandez. The Llao Llao 18-hole golf links are unique in Argentina. Precise tee-shot placement is imperative or you will be firing over, under, or around cypress or larch trees all day. The course has rolling greens and fairways sown with fine grass and surrounded by lake Nahuel Huapi and old woods with large-size specimens. Perfectly integrated bunkers, water hazards and greens, all different from each other, make up an interesting and harmonic assembly.
This stunning course is nestled amidst the impressive scenery of San Martín de los Andes, a few km from the city centre. Chapelco Golf is the first 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II. Its lawn is fully integrated with the surrounding landscape. The club offers premium quality services including the clubhouse, snack bar, pro-shop, golf carts and a great practice facility. The PGA Tour Latinoamerica host here every year the Neuquen Classic.
reg Norman created a fantastic routing across these mountains with dramatic level changes and heroic carries. Many fantastic views from the higher parts and challenge together with fun. A beautiful combo in a course to be one of the greatest in South America.
