Laem Chabang Golf Club is a picturesque Jack Nicklaus designed championship course. It is considered the best layout in Pattaya and indeed one of Thailand’s most beautiful.
Laem Chabang is made up of 27 holes on 700 acres and incorporates three types of features which characterize each of the nines. Critics widely hail this handiwork for the unique usage of the land’s mixed terrain of mountains, lakes and river valleys which are lovely as well as functional. Each type of terrain corresponds to a 9-hole course uniquely, and as such, each one is named Mountain Course, Lake Course, and Valley Course.
The rolling hills of the surrounding countryside have been used to significant effect, and hazards are in abundance. Not only does the course have a lot of bunkers, sand traps, and water hazards, there are also a lot of natural hazards in the shape of exposed rock formations, lakes, ponds, and creeks. Cleverly shaped holes skirt water hazards and tall coconut trees. Every tee named for a distinctive tree or shrub planted nearby gives the course a unique floral emphasis. The large, undulating greens are mostly elevated and protected by deep bunkers. The Mountain Course is 3,446 yards in length and plays around many hills. The opening drive requires a squeeze shot through a lush ‘canyon’ of vegetation. The second hole, a wonderfully water-fronted downhill par-3, is about as good as short holes get. From there on, challenges of the course’s natural undulations, occasional water hazards, and excellent sprawling bunkers protect the front and sides of many nicely elevated greens.
The Siam Country Club Plantation Course is simply an amazing golf course. Home to the 2009 US LGPA and the 2015 Thailand Open, the Pattaya course plays as difficult as any golf course in Thailand.
Nothing was spared by designers Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley. This 27-hole layout is routed through rolling terrain, with distant panoramic views of Pattaya Beach and Laem Chabang Port. Formerly a tapioca and pineapple plantation, the property’s geological and natural characteristics include rugged ravines bisecting its Paspalum fairways and mature trees augmented by landscape ground cover and plantings.
The Plantation Course also features significant elevation changes that result in breathtaking sea views of Gulf of Thailand 11 kilometers away. The course has one difficult hole after another. Long carries, blind shots, elevated greens, undulating fairways and greens, giant high-lipped bunkers, and shaved fringes on every hole are in play to challenge all golfers. The distance from the tips, depending on which of the 3 nines are played, is a long 7,404 or 7,495 yards, which makes the Siam Country Club Plantation Course one of the longest golf courses in Thailand.
Two nines, the 3,759-yard par-36 Tapioca and the 3,645-yard par-36 Pineapple, feature Asia’s first triple green. The Tapioca’s seventh and the Pineapple’s fourth and ninth holes play to a single green measuring more than 20,000 square feet (1,916 square meters) which serves as a unique focal point at this Pattaya golf course.
The green’s undulating putting surface is contiguous and is divided into three distinct sections by large swales. Number seven on the Tapioca is a par-3 of 178 yards, while numbers four and nine on the Pineapple are lengthy par-4s of 490 and 469 yards, respectively.
The traditional Jack Nicklaus designed Springfield Royal Country Club located off the Hua Hin bypass road is one of the best Hua Hin golf courses, and as good as they come.
The course at Springfield has been designed to meet the high demands of a recognized championship golf course, and yet it remains an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all standards. Each hole has a minimum of five tees to play from, but only the brave, and those regularly rub shoulders with the world’s best will venture from the black tee.
Water hazards periodically come into play, and each hole presents its challenge and character requiring finesse or unrestraint. Accuracy is needed at all times as the rough comprises of a series of hillocks and holes lined by a forest of mature trees.
Nicklaus’s designs love to catch the player out who hits a poor weak fade, and the back nine when tiredness begins to creep in can punish with either a massive waste bunker or water down the right-hand side of the fairways. On the other hand, keep it straight, and this course will reward as it is not exceptionally long.
Chee Chan Golf Resort, designed by Golfplan – Dale & Ramsey Golf Course Architects, offers golfers the chance to play on one of Asia’s most beautiful modern courses.
Located in the famed Khao Chee Chan Buddha’s shadows and providing views of the nearby resort city of Pattaya, Jomtien, and the Gulf of Thailand, Chee Chan is as visually stunning as it is a golfing challenge. The land and the surrounding environment are gently rolling hills and, in contrast to other Pattaya golf courses, provide more of a “Scottish Highlands” playing experience. The surrounding environment gives golfers a sense of space and openness. Over time the Pattaya golf course will gain an iconic perspective and sweeping views of Khao Chee Chan, temples, lakes, and mountains.
The 18 hole par 72 course is a challenging 7,345 yards from the championship tees and a more leisurely 6,527 yards from the front tees. Fairways and tee boxes planted with Zoysia grass are a welcome change from other area courses. Greens constructed from Tifeagle Bermuda grass putt well. The course has been designed to suit better golfers as the layout provides sweeping movement on the fairways and greens and features intricate bunker facing native landscapes and wetlands.
These latter areas are a highlight of the course. Long uphill par-4’s provide challenges often not seen at public golf facilities. Some holes seem misdesigned; they are so long.

site of Tiger Woods’ 2000 Asian Tour win)
Alpine Golf & Sports Club is one of Thailand’s top-rated courses, and one of the best in Asia. The layout created by one of America’s leading golf course architects, Ronald Garl, was the venue for the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic PGA tournament won by Tiger Woods and again hosted the same event in 2004.
The 18 holes at Alpine golf make up the best layout and most challenging golf course in Bangkok. In addition to the superb hole routing, this member’s only golf club ’s maintenance is to the highest standards and features lightning-fast greens and undulating fairways.
Large stately trees, bushes, and shrubs flourish within the undulating parkland layout.
In fact, it is hard to imagine that Alpine sprung up from flat rice paddy fields. The changing elevations are more characteristic of golf courses in Hua Hin or Phuket, instead of Bangkok.
Banyan Golf Club in Hua Hin opened in October 2008. Immediately following, the course was awarded 2009 Best New Course in Asia-Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly.
Since then Banyan Golf Club course, clubhouse, and staff have consistently claimed ‘Top 3 in Asia’ awards and have been featured in the ‘Rolex Top 1000’ in the World. Thailand golf course architect Pirapon Namatra from Golf East designed the world-class 18-hole championship golf course and is known to be one of the most natural in the country.
The course provides for spectacular mountain and ocean views from almost all of the holes and is one of the best layouts in Hua Hin. Each hole has six tee boxes making the course more or less challenging depending on each golfer’s ability and tee selection. Strategically placed water hazards, waste bunkers, and sand traps are spread out throughout the course. Significant use of native pineapple groves makes local fruits come into play if straying too far off the fairways. Be careful, pineapple plants are sharp and scratch easily.
.
one of the 100 best golf courses in the world) Black Mountain was transformed from lush jungle and pineapple plantations and located around 25 minutes west of Hua Hin.
Set in a valley surrounded by huge black granite rock covered mountains, the Hua Hin golf course was the site for Asian PGA tour events in 2009 and 2010 and the Europe versus Asia match play Royal Trophy in 2011.
In 2012 and each year since Black Mountain was selected as one of the 100 best golf courses outside the USA by Golf Digest magazine. In 2014 Black Mountain hosted The Thailand Classic, the first European Tour event to be staged in Thailand. The Thailand Classic also held in 2015 and 2016, is now a major fixture on the European and Asian Tours.
Also outstanding is the signature 11th hole, a par-3 over water to an island green. With no bail-out area and an all-water carry, club selection is critical to a dry landing and birdie chance. Otherwise, the generous drop area to the left of the green minimizes high scores and at least provides an excellent “wet bogey” opportunity for most Hua Hin golfers.
