You may be surprised to learn that there is a long tradition of top-quality golf in the Czech Republic.
The first golf courses were established to the west of Prague in the spa towns of Karlovy Vary in 1904 and Marianske Lazne in 1905. Furthermore, across the Czech Republic, golf clubs have hosted many international and European PGA tournaments.
Although throughout the decades there have been additions to these courses, since 1989, the game has really taken off, gaining significant popularity amongst many players from around central Europe and beyond. This growth is still continuing with numerous projects being developed by Czech and International consortiums to further increase the number of quality golf courses.
The Czech Republic overflows with picturesque UNESCO world heritage sites underlining historical cities, events, and landmarks that attract over 6.5 million tourists yearly.
Lying at the centre of the Czech Republic, the delightful capital of Prague is often portrayed with the Vltava River meandering through its heart, under the remarkable Charles Bridge connecting Old Town Square to the Prague Castle perched atop the skyline.
Prague is the equal of Paris in terms of beauty. Its history goes back a millennium. And the beer? The best in Europe. Prague’s maze of cobbled lanes and hidden courtyards is a paradise for the aimless wanderer, always beckoning you to explore a little further. Just a few blocks away from the Old Town Square you can stumble across ancient chapels, unexpected gardens, cute cafes, and old-fashioned bars with hardly a tourist in sight.
Beyond the serried apartment blocks of Prague’s outer suburbs, the city gives way to the surprisingly green hinterland of Bohemia, a land of rolling hills, rich farmland, and thick forests dotted with castles, chateaux, and picturesque towns. Rural and rustic, yet mostly within two to three hours’ drive of the capital, the Czech Republic’s western province has for centuries provided an escape for generations of city-dwellers.
The European Tour is now a regular visitor with the Albatross course playing host to the D+D REAL Czech Masters, with some of Europe’s biggest stars knocking it around this fantastic layout. The numerous creeks and lakes add to both the beauty and difficulty of this impressive layout, a must-play whilst on a golf holiday in the Czech Republic.

Visiting Karlovy Vary feels like nowhere else in the Czech Republic, which is why it’s such a good idea if you have the chance.

For centuries people from around the world have headed to West Bohemia to make use of the natural resources (water and mud) in which the area abounds.
But it’s not all about world-famous spa towns where it’s good to relax and recharge those batteries. In the vicinity of the spa triangle, set in the soothing countryside, you’ll discover top golf resorts.
The golf course was built 430 m above sea level on a slag heap leftover from earlier brown coal mining and was part of a re-cultivation program. Holes range between different plateaus, producing great views over changes height in of up to 42 m. This also creates extremely varied sporting challenges.
The poor soil conditions required technically very complicated planning. All the construction materials (sand and gravel) for the greens and tees, and above all the entire topsoil for the fairways and semi-roughs had to be trucked in from outside.
A spacious golf course developed on an area of around 100 hectares which, with its large number of exceptional holes, ranks among the best in the Czech Republic.
Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner in West Bohemia and sample some of the local cuisine with drinks.

After Breakfast, The Marianske Lazne Golf Club course serves as an example of Scottish and Irish golfing architecture from the end of the 19th century.
The course lies on an upland plain 787 meters above sea level, built under the governance of Scottish professional Robert Doig of Musselburgh. It was opened in 1905. Therefore it is the oldest course in The Czech Republic.
The course forms a clearly bounded area. Only holes No.2 and 3 go out of the compact course boundaries. They were built in 1978 to replace the non-regular old ones.
The greens are relatively small (but well protected by bunkers), especially when compared with newly built courses. Most of the course lies on a plain terrain. It seems to be easy at first sight. However, players find many hazards and places demanding accurate and technical play.
The surrounding picturesque landscape is natural, not harmed by any construction or buildings. The air is full of oxygen and saturated with ozone so that it is a real cure for your lungs.

Enjoy this 6-hour tour that takes you along the main sights on both riverbanks of Prague.
At the Charles Bridge, we will embark on a 45-minute boat ride with refreshments. These small, wooden boats that are replicas of 19th-century vessels hold only up to 35 people, a far cry from the large, crowded vessels that usually take tourists along the Vltava River.
While taking in the romantic atmosphere, you will travel under the Charles Bridge and view the historical center from a fresh and captivating perspective. You will also enter the so-called “Prague Venice Canal” as you enjoy your Pilsner beer, coffee, or soft drink.
History seeps through the New Town, as many of the country’s most significant events happened in this district. Founded by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348, the New Town was supposed to be the Jerusalem of Eastern Europe. Perhaps the most famous sight is the 820-yard long Wenceslas Square, which now flaunts businesses, shops, and hotels. Dating back to the 11th century, Prague’s Old Town gushes with history and architectural wonders.
Styles from Romanesque to Art Nouveau sparkle through the labyrinthine streets, alleys, and passageways that seem to jump right out of Franz Kafka’s novel The Trial. The impressive Old Town Hall, with a 60-meter tower at one end, was built in 1338. On the 15th century astronomical clock, Death tips an hourglass and rings a bell before the 12 apostles march by, the cock crows, and another bell rings.
The plight of the Jews across the centuries becomes almost tangible in the former Prague Jewish Ghetto, given that most of the area is made up of the Jewish Museum that includes four synagogues and a cemetery.
