Much like a fillet steak and a fine Malbec, our escorted golf tour combining Buenos Aires and Patagonia is all about contrasts.
Elegant city suburbs versus the wild, raw sight of the glaciers; dancing the tango in Buenos Aires versus the overpowering silence of the Patagonian steppe.
Argentina is synonymous with soccer or specifically Diego Maradona who seemingly single-handedly removed England from more than one World Cup campaign. But Argentina is one Latin American country where Europeans and even the English will feel at ease. Corned beef, the sultry tango, Buenos Aires, and, naturally, football come to mind when thinking of Argentina.
The British brought golf to Argentina at the end of the 19th century and laid out rudimentary courses around San Martin. By the time Lomas Golf Club was founded in 1892, many Argentines had already adopted the new sport. Asociación Argentina de Golf was founded in 1926 and there are currently more than 300 registered golf courses, which include 27 par three courses.
Vincente Fernández and Eduardo Romero, who each won more than 70 professional titles around the world, starting in the 1960s, and Ángel Cabrera (“El Pato”), who triumphed at the 2007 US Open in Oakmont and the Master’s Tournament at Augusta National two years later.
One really famous Argentinian golf hole is the 15th at Olivos Golf Club, known as the best hole in Argentina.
In addition to soaking up the sights and sounds of the magical city, your golf holiday in Argentina will take in the finest courses and most exclusive clubs. The country’s famed passion for celebration manifests itself in the continuous festivals of dance, food, wine and football, which are the main ingredients in the Argentine diet.
Argentina holds over 300 golf courses, 3 of which are amongst the Top 100 courses of the world outside the United States (Golf Digest Ranking). Another highlight are the beautiful landscapes surrounding them: plains bordered by rivers and natural ponds in the Buenos Aires plains; the great links of the Atlantic Coast; the courses surrounded by vineyards in Mendoza; the magnificent Patagonia; and the ones located in the stunning landscape of the Mountains of Cordoba.
Many of them are professional level courses, and every one of them provide with all first level services any good golfer appreciates. All this served as motivation for the top golf tourism organization, IAGTO, to declare Argentina as the “Best Golf Destination of the Latin American and Caribbean region”.
