BRG Kings Island Golf Resort is a 54 hole golf resort in the outskirts of Hanoi. The golf resort lies on the shores of the Dong Mo reservoir 36 kilometers from Hanoi.
At only 45 minutes drive from the capital, King’s Island is high quality and convenient choice to include in any North Vietnam golf package. Access to the course is by boat, or car in the case of the King’s Course.
The island golf complex situated site comprises 350 hectares of land and 1,500 hectares of waterfront. The Kings Course is the newest 18 at Kings Island. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened for play in 2018 all 18 holes feature a modern resort-style layout.
Wide fairways with intricate bunker complexes characterize each hole. More open as compared to both the Lakeside and Mountainview Courses, the King’s Course is the best choice for club golfers. That said the 7,310-yard layout is no pushover for the more accomplished players. Accurate shots into the greens are needed to score well.
Some of the best holes include the 196 yard fourth and 232-yard seventeenth. Both are par-3’s and play to severely bunkered greens. BRG Kings Island Golf Resort features a clubhouse with an excellent restaurant serving a wide range of cuisines. There is also a bar, which is a great place to relax after around.
In addition to golf, the club also offers other activities including sailing and fishing on Dong Mo Lake and swimming in the club’s Olympic-sized swimming pool. There are a few rooms on site that may be rented out at certain times of the year. However, most golfers will choose to go back to Hanoi after their rounds at Kings Island.
FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club opened for play in August 2017. Twenty minutes from Ha Long City and three hours from Hanoi, the 18-hole championship Schmidt-Curley designed layout offers stunning scenic ocean views over the famous UNESCO world heritage site.
The golf course sits above the old town of Ha Long Bay and overlooks the spectacular limestone karst-riddled bay. The dramatic terrain offers a drastic departure from the sandy dunes of coastal Vietnamese golf sites.
The Ha Long Bay golf course belongs to the FLC Ha Long luxury resort complex and serves as the centerpiece of the project. The FLC Ha Long Golf Club course is short at 6,092 yards from the tips and plays to a par-71. Paspalum turf from tees to greens ensure good year-round playing surfaces. While the focus is on playability and scenery, there are a variety of challenges to test the skills of even the most seasoned golfers.
Four holes directly face Halong Bay, and others are laid out around cliffs and valleys. The five par-3 holes all have a panorama view of Ha Long Bay with two (the eighth and twelfth) likely to be compared to the iconic 7th hole at Pebble Beach, California. The tee box is an excellent stop for selfies or group photos.
The par-five 12th hole plays 604 yards including a 40-meter elevation drop. Most holes feature wide fairways and accessible landing areas that make even mishit drives still playable. Sea breezes often blow off the bay and make accurate club selection a key to shooting well. Several greens have a stunning backdrop of Ha Long Bay, viewed from high above, framed by rock outcrops and mature native vegetation, punctuated with pine trees. Above a series of ridges, the course features dramatic, sweeping views and substantial elevation changes. FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club is worth a visit if nothing else for the magnificent views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ba Na Hills Golf Club is 25 minutes inland from Danang Vietnam near the foothills of the cable car station leading to Bana Hills. The IMG managed Da Nang golf course is the first Luke Donald designed course not only in Asia but the world.
Ba Na Hills is laid out in several valleys of the surrounding mountain ranges. The Ba Na Hills mountain course has a diverse mix of natural topography and vegetation. The holes at higher elevations have nice vantage points with spectacular views of the valleys below.
The site has a fair amount of elevation change and many natural features like large hardwood trees and streams that meander tough several of the holes. At 7,858 yards in length, the par-72 golf course provides a balance of challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels. The varying lengths of each hole and different lies resulting from the rolling hills and elevation changes ensure the use of a variety of shots throughout the 18 holes.
The front nine holes form a traditional parkland course surrounded by pine forests. The back nine play along and up-and-down the surrounding hills with many blind shots and doglegs. Needless to say, these holes are the more dramatic and challenging ones.
Bunkering at Ba Na Hills is unique with long grass around the edges and face of each hazard. The sand is only partly visible from the tees and fairway approach shots. The greens are angled from the fairways and only slightly undulated. There is a good variety of pin positions and approach shots.
Some of the most memorable holes are the 4th and 5th. They are both par-5, but only #4 is reachable in two. The long #5 starts off with a carry-over water followed by two well-struck long irons or hybrids to reach the protected green in regulation.
The 10th hole is an easy par-4 that plays upwards to one of the highest points on the golf course. There is an excellent photo opportunity from the green. The par-3 12th goes the opposite way downhill and is also one of the most picturesque places at Ba Na Hills.
BRG Da Nang Golf Resort (Danang Golf Club), Norman Course opened in 2010 and immediately leaped to fame being recognized as one of the 15 best new courses in the world by USA GOLF magazine.
Da Nang Golf Resort has achieved many awards, amongst them 2011, 2012, 2013 best golf course in Asia by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly as well as the 2012 Best Golf Course in Vietnam by USA Golf Digest and the 2014 IAGTO Diamond Award.
The Norman-designed Dunes Course uses the sandy loam soil of Danang Beach, a place with more history than golf. The Vietnam golf club is located directly on the beach that the American’s used for their first landing and adjacent to the American’s central supply depot and airfield used during the conflict of the 1960s. Here on Vietnam’s central coast, one finds a seaside landscape almost identical to the land of the world’s first courses. The links-style golf experience was crafted as much by Mother Nature as it was by any golf architect.
This Danang golf course is a unique golf challenge that every golfer will enjoy. Fairways are generous, and there is restrained use of water and no out-of-bounds. Sculpted bunkering, shaped putting greens, and abundant natural waste areas have been cut directly from the surrounding dunes. Scoring well requires carefully placed shots to give players a chance to go for the pins on the undulating greens.
The fairways are also lined and well defined by long needle pines, so miss into the trees, and it’s a forced punch off the sand and pine needles along a safe line to get back into play. More so than other areas of Vietnam, the wind can play be a significant factor on the Vietnam coast. For example, the par-3 16th hole is back-dropped by the South China Sea and often plays into a stiff headwind, making club selection very tricky. The wind, when combined with the firm and fast greens, can toughen up the course considerably.
Golfers accustomed to links-style golf have an advantage due to the options afforded by the soil and turf conditions that enable low running bumps and runs and putting from well off the greens. Creative shot-making comes in handy on this course.
The Montgomerie Links, located just off historical Danang Beach and minutes from the Danang City, is a stunning 7090 yard, par-72 golf course.
The course rated as one of Asia’s ten most elite courses by the 2012 Forbes Travel Guide as well as most recently has been voted as ‘Vietnam’s Best Championship Course 2013’ by the Vietnam Golf Magazine. Since then yearly awards are common for Montgomerie.
Nearby Hoi An, known for being a UNESCO World Heritage site, also has a fantastic beachscape, which makes the perfect palette for this links-style course. The Montgomerie Links Vietnam is known by locals as Monty Links, gives golfers the feeling of being in Ireland or Scotland without the cold temperatures of the British Isles!
The first golf course in central Vietnam it takes advantage of its proximity to both the Vietnam East Sea and the Marble Mountains; the latter are visible from many points on the course.
Eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie, better known as Monty to his worldwide fan base, has massaged massive greens and rippled fairways into the stunning backdrop, setting up a golfer’s course.
Montgomerie Links has outstanding natural features. The sandy soil, wind-blown dunes, and indigenous vegetation combine in creating the framework for this links-style golf course along the Vietnam East Sea. Only a few other flagship layouts in Dubai, Ireland, and Wales can boast the Montgomerie namesake.
A product of Royal Troon in Scotland, a British Open rotation mainstay, Monty has implemented classic, old-world design elements into the Danang golf course, such as rolling, treeless fairways, thick rough, massive greens, and tight chipping areas.
Among the memorable holes are 7 and 13, a pair of par-4’s with some of the deepest bunkers on the course. The only departure from tradition comes in the form of several lakes and streams, a must when considering the region’s seasonably high water table. The course caters to players of all abilities as holes routed through an incredibly natural formation of dunes, heartlands, and seaside vegetation.
The Twin Doves Golf Club offers a 27-hole international standard championship members golf course. Located 1.5 hours from Saigon, the Twin Doves parkland course is broken into three nines named Luna, Mare, and Sole. The Saigon golf course is one of the best-conditioned layouts in the Saigon area and makes excellent use of Paspalum turf and extensive landscaping.
With the views of rural Vietnam, the Luna Course comprises many small hills, fruit orchards, and neighboring forests. The mounding and land shapes combine to form challenging hazards. Five of the holes are connected by rolling hills and the rest are separated by tree-lined fairways.
The Mare Course is more natural with all holes flanked by creeks and trees. Fairways are narrow, and accurate shot-making is critical to score well. Most of the greens are multi-tiered and guarded by water hazards, making shot accuracy once again paramount to a good score. The Mare Course is the most exciting of the 3 nines.
The Sole Course features island green, beach bunkers, and plays around a blue lake. This makes the nine both visually appealing and challenging. Also unique to this nine is the presence of seven par-4’s and only one each, par-3 and par-5.
Most golfers prefer to avoid the Sole Curse for this unconventional routing. In any case, this nine is still attractive with a series of natural water hazards and challenges.
